Dear Gracie,
Another eventful week!
Benson had his second tennis tournament on Tuesday. Overall their school did much better than last week. Benson lost one and won one of his doubles matches and then barely lost his singles match. Dad and I were able to go watch him for that, and he played really well--but his opponent was really good, too. He's conflicted about taking tennis next year while also taking band. I'm not encouraging it as much as I probably could... He and his wind ensemble percussion people went to a contest on Saturday out in Forney. They performed the piece where Benson is on the drumset, and then he, Kaleb, and Ayaan did their trio. Their school came in first place! All their hard work paid off!
Tessa and I spent a good amount of time this week practicing together for her solo contest on Saturday (10:30 am, which was exactly at the same time as Benson's contest, but in the opposite direction, in Plano). She's been struggling with congestion, either from a cold or allergies, which makes it hard to play, but she pulled through and played well for the contest. (And I did pretty well, too, except on my little solo parts, but I played fine when I was playing with her.) She (we
) scored a 1, which she was very happy about. That's three ones for three years of solos! (I forgot to get a picture of her, though.)

(I forgot to get a picture of her, though.)Dad had a lot going on at work, including preparing and practicing a presentation and being asked to help with Engineering Week. He suggested they put on a Pinewood Derby, so of course, he was also put in charge of running it. He hauled the wood track from the church to his work, and he had a lot of enthusiastic engineers enter the race. (One decided to make the slowest car that would still cross the finish line! Several 3D printed their cars, or elements of them.) Dad's Jeep won, but he took his car out of the running for the awards, which a manager provided. He attended Savannah Matheney's baptism on Saturday (at 10 am--it was a busy hour for the Ropers!) since he is her Primary teacher, and then he and Benson played disc golf with some friends in the afternoon.
On Wednesday, the youth played volleyball, and I enjoy playing, but there were lots of people, so I waited to join in. When I was finally in and going for the ball, I tripped and fell splat, spread eagle on my tummy, on the floor! My knee caught the brunt and I have a fun bruise, but no other lasting injury--except for my pride, maybe!
In other health news, I have had very mild ear pain for two weeks or so, and on Saturday I woke up with very mild vertigo (I kept feeling like I was tipping to the side a bit). That was when I was playing for Tessa, and thankfully it didn't become a factor. After a good nap, I felt a lot better. I went to the library in the afternoon to get preschool books for March, and I realized that I only have to do that for two more months! I've been making that trip every school month for twelve years! Tessa had come with me and was helping me return the old books and she said, "I think you probably have checked out the most books of anyone in the library!" That is most likely not true--but I have definitely checked out a LOT.

It was Fast Sunday, of course, so Benson and Tessa were helpful in making the food so that we could be ready when they arrived. Dad grilled hamburgers, and we had sweet potato fries and strawberry cheesecake. It was pretty great. I was going to look through the new hymns they released this week, but I haven't done that yet. Oh, also, this week I listened to the Follow Him podcast with John Bytheway and Hank Smith about Abraham, Lot, Lot's family, Sarah, Hagar, Ishamael, and Isaac, and it was SO GOOD. It really helped my understanding of the chapters this week, and in our Sunday School class, a lot of others had listened to it too, so we were able to discuss some of the insights we learned from them and the guest speaker, Carli Anderson. I'm so grateful there are resources like this to help me understand the history, language, and context of these ancient accounts.
Today was a prep day--shopping, laundry, cutting, pasting... all the fun. My two new piano students still don't have a piano at home, which is a challenge for sure. I'll have to give some sort of ultimatum to their mom if they don't get something soon.
OK--I think I need to get going! Have a wonderful day, and expect miracles, Sister!
Love,
Mom
