Some Summer Fun

Can we really only have a couple weeks left of this summer?  Time flies (well, besides the whining, arguing, long hot afternoons, all-day long chores that should take 15 minutes, constant snack-itis, constant toy messes, constant dishes, and other tests of endurance)!  Where was I?  Yes.  Time flies when you're having FUN.  We have had some of that, too.

Tessa got a birthday package from her grandma with two princess dresses, and within five minutes of its arrival, I found her in it getting a makeover from Emma.  At that moment, Caytie was putting the other one on as Gracie waited to make her over, too.
It was fun to listen to them play after they were properly prepared.  Tessa was in a Cinderella dress, but she declared that she was the Snow Fairy, with the power to make things cold.  Caytie was in a Sleeping Beauty dress, but she was the Flower Fairy and could make things grow and smell nice.  Better to have fairy powers than to just be princesses, I guess.

Look who got teeth!  It took a while before he'd let me get a picture, but here are his four cute gappy top teeth.  There are two on the bottom as well.  He got all six teeth in two months, but never seemed to be too upset about it.  A blessing of teething when you're older?
Scott thinks Benson now looks a lot like Om Nom, from his Cut the Rope game.  What do you think?

My garden grew like it never has before.  I am sure it was not because of me, though.  I just put the plants in the ground, sprinkle some water on, and hope for the best.  We had the coolest start to the summer that we've had since we've lived here, and some great rain, so things grew really, really well (until the heat became too much this month).  Below is the tomato harvest from one day...
...which was soon turned into tomato soup.  I had to make a chunky recipe, because I don't have a food processor, but with the fresh basil (also from the garden), it was so, so good.
I also made bruschetta and some caprice salad, which the kids were not fond of, but Ben and I loved.

We also grew yellow squash and zucchini, which did really well also until the squash bugs took over and ruined the plants.  We found this crazy hybrid hidden under some leaves:

Scott used Scoutmaster Dad's new huge poles to practice lashing one afternoon.  He had fun, but just couldn't figure out how to make blankets stay on it to complete the tepee.
We did a summer ABC project, as well, which I will post about soon.  Until then, keep cool, enjoy your summer, KIT, TTYL, BFF!!!
