Dear Gracie,
What a full day today! I am going to have to make this letter short so I can get to bed.
On Tuesday evening, Benson had his percussion concert. He and his two friends performed the marimba trio, "Orange Valley Road," and they were so good! They had put it together all by themselves, and it was definitely a crowd favorite. All the other percussion ensembles were done well, too (6th through 12th grades). Benson's wind ensemble did a piece where he was on the drumset! That was fun to listen to, as well.
I took Tessa in for a filling on Wednesday morning, and then to Whataburger for the dentist recommended milkshake to numb the pain. She said it felt fine, but appreciated the milkshake, anyway. Benson had his first 8th grade tennis tournament after school. It was a team from Rockwall that was really good (or we're really bad?? We'll find out as the season goes on!) because everyone from Burnett lost their matches...except for Benson, and he said that the guy he played wasn't as good as everyone else. (He lost his doubles match and his second singles match, though.)
Thursday was a quiet night, so we enjoyed watching the Olympics. Go, USA!
Friday was full, I'm sure, but I don't remember with what. :) I remember a lot of piano, since it's my 6 lesson day and I have been practicing to accompany Tessa's solo next week and a couple of choir songs coming up.
On Saturday, Wylie East hosted the Winterguard competition for 77 performances throughout the day. It's a big fundraiser for the band, so they pushed hard for volunteers. Tessa took a shift and Dad worked, either making cotton candy or other concessions as needed, from 7 am to 1:30 am!!! He was so tired when he got home! I wasn't able to make it, since I had a mandolin lesson, the Young Womens' camp fundraiser (we did a Kid Camp craft/game day again), and I needed to write my talk for Sunday. The topic was "God wants me to make and keep covenants," and there is a WHOLE lot of information that I had to narrow down. I also needed to prepare my YW lesson, which was on the same topic (plus some more). Tessa babysat for the Taylors in the evening. They keep closing different portions of Stone Road for construction without notification, so you never know the best way to go that direction until you get there and find the "road closed" signs and have to turn around and try a new way.
Sunday was good. It's always good to pause for the Sacrament. (I learned that in Spanish it's called Santa Cena--Holy Dinner/Supper. I like that.
) My talk went well, and I'll attach it if you'd like to read it. The lesson went well, too. My oldest and shyest young woman (who most likely has anxiety) was my co-teacher, and I was afraid she'd freeze up before she started, but she was able to pull through and share what she had prepared. I was able to fill in the rest of the time with the extra things I had prepared for my talk that didn't make it in. After church was choir, and then the Matheneys invited us over for dinner. They have a propane pizza oven, so we all made our own little pizzas, which were delicious. I had my family book club call in the evening, where we talked about F. Enzio Busche's book. I took some screenshots from the book to see if you recognize the church building and the other building in the picture from Dortmund. Is that church building still there? Have you seen the crooked brick he was talking about?

Love,
Mom
